In use since 1964 carried by helicopter (UH-60) and used in light infantry operations. Towed by 2 1/2 ton truck or HMMWV. Can by dropped by parachute for airborne units. Being replaced by M-119 series howitzer (qv)

Artillery support to Army light forces. Airmobile with UH-60. Fires M913 High Explosive Rocket Assisted ammunition, HE, smoke, illumination, ICM munitions.

Armored self-propelled medium howitzer. Provides indirect fire support. Can be transported by C-5 aircraft.

WW II and Korean War era In heavy weapons companies of infantry battalions

Eight on each of BB 45, 46, 48 Nine on each of BB 55 thru BB 60

Nine each on only the four Iowa Class battleships. Triple turret

Used rarely as primary armament on small ships, e.g. a few minesweepers, in WW II

Used as primary armament on certain small ships, such as some minesweepers and destroyer escorts, in WW II

WW II era Used as secondary armament on large ships, such as battleships

WW II era Used as primary armament of destroyers and smaller vessels

Used from 1935 (USS Hull thfrough 1994 (until decommissioning of USS Long Beach). Was primary weapon on most U.S. destroyers of the period and secondary weapon on larger ships.

Fully automatic, lightweight gun mount, controlled by either Mk 86 Gun Fire Control System or Mk 160 Gun Computing System. Use on CG 47 class cruisers and DDG 51 class destroyers

FMC licensed by OTO Malera Mounted on Navy frigates and hydrofoils and larger Coast Guard vessels
